Organizational Commitment

We are excited to invite your hospital to participate in a landmark initiative that has the potential to significantly improve the work experience for SC healthcare team members, and to ultimately strengthen recruitment and retention.

The goal of this work is to elevate healthcare worker voices and foster a spirit of partnership between hospitals and their employees. To get engaged and show your hospital’s support for this initiative, we invite you to sign the
Workforce Experience Organizational Commitment.

Team Tools

Workforce Experience Survey

Building on our previous two years of research, the WES is thoughtfully designed to help hospitals:

  • Measure levels of burnout and professional fulfillment among their workforce,

  • Identify pain points and sources of chronic workplace stress and frustration, and

  • Identify and prioritize actions that can be taken to improve hospital culture, processes, systems, and overall work experience.

Strategy for Wellbeing

An interactive, online tool that helps employers assess and implement best practices for effective workforce wellbeing initiatives. It includes: an evidence-based organizational assessment; a scorecard with ratings from bronze to platinum; a detailed report with customized improvement opportunities;  and a library of online resources including sample policies, case studies, sample signage, implementation guides, and planning timeline.

Mindful Moments

 Mindful Moment Slides:

  • BRAVR: Use BRAVR as a ready or reset routine to mitigate stressors that impact performance.

  • Gratitude: Gratitude is the foundation to joy. What we seek we find. When we ground ourselves in gratitude, we find more reasons to be grateful.

  • Downshift: Mindfully transition from work to life with this self-care strategy to reset after a shift.

  • The Next Right Thing: Anna said it best. When things seem overwhelming or out of control, sometimes all we can do is focus on “the next right thing” … and maybe sing a little tune.

  • Triple A Approach to Active Listening

Virtual Nursing Series

Thrive TEAM Training

This 5-module, on-demand, virtual training series is designed to train multi-disciplinary Thrive Teams. These teams then provide work-unit level support to build teamwork and boost engagement while addressing identified challenges. Each module is about 10-minutes in length. Developed by Rachel Brown, MD and Medical Director of Prevention and Wellness with Prisma Health.

The Pause

“The Pause" can be initiated by any healthcare team member following a high-stress situation (a trauma, patient death, etc.). The Pause is a simple moment for reflection to honor the life of the patient and the efforts of the team. It is followed by a 15-30 second period of silence.

The reflective script can be customized for your facility with the guidance of a Chaplin or a template script can be used like this one: “Let us take a moment to pause and honor (patient’s name or this person). He/she was someone who loved and was loved; was someone’s family member and friend. In our own way and in silence let us take a moment to honor (patient’s name). Let us also honor and recognize the care provided by our team.”

Healthcare systems that use this have it printed on pocket cards that employees carry with them. The script is customizable.

Hospital Innovations

Virtual Nursing/VirtuALLY

The workforce shortage and its impact on quality and safety metrics were high areas of concern in a southeastern acute care community hospital. A Virtual Care Partners (VCP) Program pilot was proposed for one of the medical-surgical level units.  The purpose of this pilot quality improvement project was to examine the effect of the Virtual Care Partners program on discharge time, length of stay, and readmissions.

“Participating in this program will help them develop the skills and competencies required of successful leaders in today’s ever-changing healthcare work environment.”

-Thornton Kirby, President & CEO of SCHA
